Frequently asked questions
Is SqueaksGone safe around the house?
Yes. SqueaksGone is non-toxic and non-hazardous and virtually odorless. It is safe to use around pets and kids. But we do advise to store it where children will not have access. The caution is to test it on objects where discoloration may be an issue. This includes clothing, carpets, unpainted wood, or items that absorb liquid readily. It might stain these items so do a simple test application and wipe it off to see if there is any discoloration. On items like plastic, nylon, metal, aluminum, steel, alloys, and hard non-porous surfaces, SqueaksGone will work.
Does SqueaksGone have a bad smell?
No. In fact it has virtually no smell. Many of the users of SqueaksGone have reported loving the lack of odor and the fact that it actually works. Many of the non-toxic, non-hazardous lubricants on the market are little more than vegetable oil – providing temporary relief from squeaks and wear but attracting dust and dirt and failing quickly. SqueaksGone provides long-lasting relief and does not attract dust and dirt – all this and no nasty odor.
How do you fix squeaky door hinges with SqueaksGone?
Do you have a squeaky door hinge? Well, the answer is simple! Fixing a squeaky door hinge involves getting SqueaksGone into the rubbing metal surfaces where friction and dust and dirt are causing the problem. The easiest way to accomplish this is to use the needle tip applicator to apply a small amount of SqueaksGone on the hinge where the rubbing parts meet. It will penetrate about 1 inch in a two hour period. So put SqueaksGone on the hinge, work the hinge back and forth a few times to start the penetration process and let it sit to penetrate even further. There is a good chance the squeak will disappear while you are working the hinge back and forth. But, it may require more penetration so give it a few hours and test it again. If the squeaks persist, make another application and follow the same procedure. If after penetrating for 12 hours the squeak remains, try removing the pin from the hinge and wiping the hinge joints with a clean rag. Apply SqueaksGone while it is disassembled, then reassemble the hinge. This should remove the squeaks. If that also fails it may require replacing the faulty hinge.

How do you fix a squeaky garage door?
Learning how to fix a squeaky garage door is easy with SqueaksGone. Garage door squeaking is caused by metal rubbing on metal. The sound may be coming from the bearings in the door, the hinges that move and change angle as the door opens, the rollers in the track rubbing on the track, or the chain or worm drive rubbing on the working mechanisms. No matter the cause, the remedy is the same – put SqueaksGone on the rubbing parts and lubricate the bearings, hinges, rollers, tracks, chain and/or worm drive. In some instances there may be dust and dirt build-up on the parts that require cleaning either before or after lubrication. Once cleaned, lubricate the moving parts.
We get many thanks for customers who have removed the squeaks from a garage door with SqueaksGone.

Is SqueaksGone a replacement for WD40?
Yes. WD-40 is actually a solvent, not a lubricant. WD-40 helps to clean but then leaves a residue behind once it dries and attracts dust and dirt. Our recommendation is to use SqueaksGone everywhere you think WD-40 is supposed to work. The outcome will surprise you because SqueaksGone will work better and last longer without the nasty smell and toxic fumes. On top of working better, SqueaksGone is an environmentally friendly replacement for WD-40. Do you want to know how to fix squeaky door hinges without WD-40? The answer for every squeak and creak is SqueaksGone.
How fast will SqueaksGone work?
SqueaksGone is fast acting. It begins to bond to metal and plastic surfaces immediately. The bond gets stronger through time and it penetrates further as well. One suggestion is to be patient and allow SqueaksGone to penetrate – an hour or even overnight. But, simple tasks of relieving squeaks can often be solved with the first application and no waiting.
Will the squeaks really be gone?
Yes. Unlike typical aerosols that are solvents, SqueaksGone bonds to the surfaces providing a long-lasting protection from rust, corrosion, friction, and wear. One of our problems is that a small amount of SqueaksGone solves a lot of problems for a long period of time. We might sell more lubricant if it did not last so long, but we think our customers appreciate a lubricant that is long-lasting.
What else can you use SqueaksGone on?
The short answer is any place where friction, rubbing, wear, and heat are issues. This goes where metal-meets-metal or plastic-meets-plastic or rubbing parts are moving. Squeaks are one annoying way you can identify where SqueaksGone can be used, but there are actually more applications than we can name here. Doors, hinges, key locks, garage doors, squeaky piano pedals, sewing machines, squeaky fans, skateboard bearings, bike chains, cables, latches, paddle locks, hedge trimmers, metal bed frames, desk drawers, windows, tools, power tools, office chairs, and the list goes on and on.
Why isn't SqueaksGone in an aerosol sprayer?
It was our goal to create a non-toxic, non-hazardous lubricant that actually worked. Avoiding toxic aerosol sprayers was one step in creating a eco-friendly lubricant. Just the propellant in many aerosols is toxic, hazardous, and highly flammable. We wanted to avoid these issues so we opted to not put SqueaksGone in an aerosol. Additionally, a small amount of SqueaksGone is generally all that is needed to solve the issue. An aerosol sprayer would make a mess of most applications and over treat the part. The cleanup from the residual mess that results is avoided by use of a needle tip applicator.
